Getting Around Wellington

Airport
Wellington International Airport is located 8km from the city centre. There are several alternatives for ground transport from the airport to the city centre; airport bus, shuttle bus and taxi. The orange Stagecoach Flyer bus service takes passengers directly to Wellington from NZ$ 3-8 depending on the distance traveled. The service runs half-hourly all day on weekdays, hourly on weekends. Alternatively shuttle buses operate a door to door service to all locations within Wellington for NZ$ 19-22 for two people. Taxis from the airport to the city centre take around 15mins and cost approximately NZ$ 30. (When leaving Wellington Airport there is a departure fee of NZ$ 25.)

Local Traffic
Wellington's compact size makes it ideal for exploring on foot. Two or four seat bicycles are also available to hire at the waterfront, but you won't be able to take them into the city, only around the waterfront. Stagecoach operates the local bus services, including the City Circular service which runs every 15 minutes with stops at many of the main attractions. Once around or any part of the circuit costs NZ$ 3. A Stagecoach day pass is available for NZ$ 6. You can explore the Wairarapa wine country, the Kapiti Coast, Porirua and the Hutt Valley with Tranz Metro.
